Civil and Structural Engineering
Since established in 1997 IDAC has provided structural engineering analysis services to a large, national and international, client base as well as collaborating with research institutions. These services include static, dynamic, linear/nonlinear and seismic analyses for steel, concrete and masonry structures checked to appropriate codes of practice, and the development of simulation solutions for new technologies.


During this time we've been commissioned to analyse building frames, steel and concrete silos, flat slabs, modular housing units, steel gantry and access platforms, turbine generator blocks, post-tensioned reinforced concrete beams and bridges, steel bridges, structural steel connections, masonry arch bridges, bridge bearing details and reinforced concrete beams strengthened using fibre reinforced composite materials.

Our 3D geometry, material modelling and analysis capabilities enable us to offer more complete analysis solutions than traditional frame analysis software - a good example is our analysis of the structural frames for the new Croke Park Stadium for Horgan Lynch & Partners. We also provide customised solutions and have recently completed an automated container crane builder, analyser and code checker for Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd.
We have particularly expertise in bridge engineering, notably in the areas of dynamic and assessment analysis. This includes steel, concrete and masonry bridges.


Collaborating with researchers at University College Dublin we have developed robust procedures for accurate modelling of masonry arch bridges which have been validated by comparison with test data. This work culminated in the development of two new assessment algorithms, one of which is unique as it is a 3D approach, for stone arch bridges. Both these assessment approaches are now offered as IDACapps using the ANSYS software as the simulation engine and the EASA as the application authoring and management tool.
